"Responding to the greatest natural disaster in Pakistan, Norwegian Refugees Council (NRC) is reaching out to the remote areas of district Shangla and Balakot to distribute tents and stoves among the quake-hit people ", said Stig Traavik, Country Director of NRC on Tuesday.

NRC has started distributing tents and other relief goods among the affected people in Chakesar, Punyal, Ranial, Upper Ranial villages, Opal and Deari in Shangla since October 21 last due to the massive earthquake that wreaked havoc in Pakistan.

Stig Traavik said that during the assessment the Norwegian teams had to climb rough tracks for several hours before reaching the survey sites as some of the tracks were not passable even by mules and supplies had to be carried on back.

He said that NRC has been distributing winterised tents and stoves among the quake victims in district Mansehra, in villages North East and North West of Balakot and Shangla district.

Country Director of NRC informed in an official statement that NRC had so far distributed 695 tents and 445 stoves in the various villages of Shangla and Balakot districts and is further speeding up its relief efforts because of the fast approaching winter season.

He said that, "We are co-ordinating with the Pakistani army in distribution and selection of priority areas and is extending assistance to the affected people".

Stig said that in the coming days, NRC teams will carry out relief operations in Allai region to provide shelter to people who have received little assistance due to impassable roads.
